Tulare was established in 1872 when the Southern Pacific Railroad laid track through the San Joaquin Valley, creating a railroad terminus that became the seed for a new city. The town was incorporated in 1888, and its early growth was tied directly to the railroad and the agricultural operations it enabled. A grid of streets was laid out following the standard patterns of the era, with a downtown district organized around rail access and local commerce.

The historic downtown of Tulare reflects its origins as a railroad and farming hub. The Yokuts people had inhabited the region for centuries before Spanish and American settlement; the landscape Tulare's founders encountered was shaped by that history. As the city grew, its downtown became the gathering place for the surrounding agricultural community, with businesses, civic buildings, and gathering places clustered around the commercial core.

Towns with agricultural roots often develop strong neighborhood identities and multi-generational connections to the place itself. Those connections are worth protecting: a term insurance policy sized to your household's real needs and budget is one part of keeping that stability in place when the unexpected happens.
